The
First Meeting

Donor officials are not
necessarily used to meeting with NGOs in a formal way and
can sometimes be as nervous about the meeting as NGO
delegates who have not done this type of lobbying before.
However, they have extensive meeting experience and will
feel more comfortable if standard meeting procedures are
followed.
1. Introduce each of the members
of your delegation and mention their title or position
2. The leader of the delegation should briefly introduce
the work and scope of your NGO
3. The leader can then mention that you aware of the
policy of the donor government regarding human rights in
general and the human rights approach to development in
particular
4. Those who have been appointed as spokespersons in turn
then outline the concerns you have about the realization
of human rights and the priorities for action you have
identified
5. The leader of the delegation should then outline what
action you would like the donor to take
6. You should then hand over the background material and
any other documentation you have prepared
