Rights: A Reflection Of Human Dignity While the agreements arose out of the experiences of the War, they reflect a long history of struggle to regulate the relations between the state and its citizens and a recognition of the relationship between respect for human dignity and the necessary conditions for peace and security. The UN General Assembly proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights after its adoption by countries from all regions of the globe and from vastly different political systems. Ever since then some governments and academics have argued that because the UN had far fewer members than after decolonization, the Universal Declaration reflects an "Western" world view incompatible with many cultures. |
