Discrimination
RESPECT LIFE = RESPECT RIGHTS
Way to Overcome Discrimination

How to use this manual for Human Rights Education?

This manual tries to provide steps to understand discrimination / intolerance and realised that discrimination / intolerance is have no place in the world of today.

Samples in the manual are provided to cover all countries possible. Users are not encouraged to use all of them but to choose what best fits their aims and goals.

The manual is a guideline for users to make a simplified A4 brochure, one page in English and the other in local language, or whatever suit the best.

To simplify the content in the manual, users need to highlight key words or sentences that are easy to understand and follow.

It is advised that a poster or A4 colour printed page be prepared with a simple symbol and words 'respect life = respect rights: way to overcome discrimination'.

To understand more, users need to follow the following steps:

1.   Read the entire manual which is presented in a logical format:
  • To learn about individual experiences on discrimination or intolerance by not accepting others as sisters and brothers through asking the question 'will you consider me as your brothers and sisters, only if I am not...?'
  • To understand why this happens through 'dignity & freedom' explaination based on the point of view of psychology, religion and human rights points of view.
  • To understand that not respecting others means discriminating them and discrimination is derived from 'fear'.
  • To overcome 'fear' one needs 'knowledge' that everyone is basically equal from birth under human rights teaching.
  • To be able to start respecting others by freeing yourself from 'fear' and becoming 'tolerant'.
2.   You may find the manual too general and would like to 'highlight' some of the 'problems' or 'issues' that suit your aims and goals.
  • Study the 'issues' and you may make use of the information you need.
3.   Prepare a brochure and poster yourself to reach your projected audience. Your poster and brochure can be used on Human Rights Day, 10 December 2002.
4.   Please send us a copy of your finished products.
