| Asian Center for the Progress of Peoples |
Asian Center for the Progress of Peoples is an independent organisation based in Hong Kong with an Asian focus. It was founded in 1979 when groups and individuals of the Church committed to Justice and Peace work in Hong Kong saw beyond the needs of the Territory and realised the urgency of an Asian-level involvement. They were inspired by Pope Paul VI's Encyclical letter "Progress of Peoples" (Populorum Progresso, 1967). Started as: a center to serve justice and peace efforts in Asia towards people's total liberation and development. Presently, ACPP mainly works for the Hotline Asia (HL) project as a response to the needs of grassroots, workers' and local action groups. It will consider expanding its work as the need arises in the future. Works with: everyone of good faith concerned with remedying social injustices and promoting genuine holistic human development. It is independent of all organised religions, Churches or Dioceses, governments or political parties. With its history and being religiously-inspired, it has strong links with many Catholic diocesan and religious social justice bodies. It also cooperates with concerned professionals and scholars. Is supported by: Catholic and ecumenical development agencies from Europe, and religious communities, groups and individuals in Hong Kong. It also receives a great deal of support from human rights, justice and peace groups around the world. |
