Introduction

SCHOOL FOR EVIL SPIRITS

There was once an evil spirit named Ok Tsai. One day, the principal of the "Training Institute for Evil Spirits" saw Ok Tsai crying and asked him why he was so sad. Ok Tsai explained: "Everyday I work hard to tempt good people to do evil things but they never listen to me." The principal explained: "Ok Tsai, your approach is wrong. Do not tempt good people do evil. Instead tempt good people do nothing! That will leave a few bad people free to cause plenty of evil." From that day on Ok Tsai became an effective and productive evil spirit.

Lesson: Evil thrives when good people are apathetic.

Question & Answer
Question:   What can little people do when confronted with gigantic forces of economic, political and cultural evil?
Answer:   All wonderful change begins when a few good people come together in solidarity and take action. Examples: Independence of East Timor, the collapse of the Berlin wall, the many thousands who no longer use tobacco, South African non-violent transfer of power, awareness of the rights of minorities: blacks, women, gays, elderly, disabled etc. These victories were achieved by powerless people like us.

Social Teachings of the Church

"Therefore, holding faithfully to the gospel and benefiting from its resources, and united with every man who loves and practices justice, Christians have shouldered a gigantic task demanding fulfillment in this world." Church in the Modern World #93 (Emphasis mine: ed)
