After his arrest on 28 February 2002, Mr. Bahauddin Nasim was released on bail on 6 January 2003 after the High Court declared his detention illegal. His case is still pending.

Mr. Bahauddin Nasim, the Special Assistant to the president of the Awami League political party, was allegedly brutally tortured during interrogation after his arrest in 2002. Hotline Asia issued UA020322(5) in March 2002 urging his immediate release and the halt of political repression on opposition political parties.
