Dr. M.K. Alamgir and seven others accused of sedition (Janatar Mancha Case), currently out on bail, were asked in January 2003, to appear before the court on 15 March 2003. The charge sheet was submitted on 26 December 2002, stating that the accused had erected a Janatar Mancha (People's Platform) in front of the National Press Club in March 1996 and encouraged government officials and employees to join the agitation against the then BNP government.

Arrested on 15 March 2002 without specific charge, Opposition Awami League Party member, Dr. Alamgir was denied medical treatment during his detention. He was released from jail on bail in September 2002.
