Justice and Security for threatened Christian UA040920(8)

30 November 2004

Negotiations between Mr. Raja Ifthikar and Mr. Yousaf Naz were being held recently. According to recent news Mr. Raja Ifthikar wanted to reconcile with Mr. Yousaf Naz and agreed to pay the funds which were sanctioned for the Christian community. These funds were believed to be the cause of dispute between them. Mr. Yousaf Naz is still looking into the matter as he thinks that Mr. Raja is afraid of the law procedures ahead and wants reconciliation.

Mr. Yousaf Naz, who had earlier exposed a case of corruption at a district council meeting, had been kidnapped and tortured twice since March 2004. During the second kidnapping on 26 May, he was threatened to be killed in front of an influential District Councilor, Mr. Raja Ifthikar. Hotline Asia issued UA040920(8) urging the authorities to conduct an immediate and impartial investigation into the case.
